Why isn’t my chosen nonprofit on GoFundMe Giving Funds?

Contributions to your Giving Fund can only support qualified 501(c)(3) public nonprofits. Funds cannot be used for personal fundraisers, including your own.

If you're trying to recommend a grant from your GoFundMe Giving Fund and don’t see a specific nonprofit listed, there could be a few reasons why. The GoFundMe Giving Fund follows strict eligibility requirements to ensure donations are granted only to qualified 501(c)(3) public charities.

Here are some possible reasons why a nonprofit may not appear as an option:

1. The organization is not a qualified 501(c)(3) public charity

GoFundMe Giving Fund can only distribute grants to U.S.-based charities that are registered as 501(c)(3) public charities with the IRS and are in good standing. Private foundations, international nonprofits, and other entity types are not eligible under IRS rules for donor-advised funds.

2. The organization is newly registered or recently changed its status

If a nonprofit was recently established or updated its IRS classification, it may take time for our systems to recognize and verify it. You can try searching by EIN (Employer Identification Number) to double-check.

3. The organization is under IRS review or inactive

Sometimes a nonprofit’s tax-exempt status is under review, has been revoked, or is inactive with the IRS. In these cases, we are unable to process grants to that organization until their status is restored.

4. The organization is missing from our data providers' listings

We partner with trusted nonprofit data sources to maintain a robust and current list of eligible organizations, over 1.4 million charities are available. While this covers the vast majority of registered nonprofits, it’s possible that some smaller or newer organizations may not yet appear in our database.

If you have a specific nonprofit you'd like to support but can’t find, feel free to reach out to our team using the "Contact us" button, and we'll be happy to look into it for you.

5. The organization isn’t eligible due to benefit restrictions

Donations from DAF accounts like the Giving Fund cannot result in any personal benefit to the donor. If the organization provides goods, services, or memberships in exchange for donations, it may be restricted from receiving DAF grants.
