GoFundMe Giving Fund: What are the tax benefits of using a DAF?

Contributing to your GoFundMe Giving Fund (GFGF) offers tax benefits, and we make it easy to access your tax summary when you need it. Below, you’ll find information about what the potential tax advantages of a donor-advised fund (DAF) are, how to understand what portion of your contribution may be deductible, and how to locate your tax receipt.

What are the tax benefits of contributing to your GoFundMe Giving Fund?

Contributions to your GFGF are generally tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law, because they are made to the GoFundMe Giving Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity.

The actual tax deductibility of your contribution may vary based on your individual financial situation. GoFundMe and GoFundMe Giving Fund do not provide tax advice, so we recommend consulting a tax advisor to understand how your contribution may impact your personal tax filing.

How much of my donation is tax-deductible?

In general, 100% of your contribution to the GoFundMe Giving Fund may be considered tax-deductible. Deductions depend on your individual tax circumstances, and you should consult your tax advisor for specific guidance.

Your tax summary will show the total amount you contributed to your GoFundMe Giving Fund in a given year. Once funds are in your GoFundMe Giving Fund, any donations (grants) made to nonprofits do not provide additional tax benefits, as the deduction occurred at the time of your initial contribution.

If I donate on the last day of the year, what calendar year does my donation count toward?

When you contribute to your GoFundMe Giving Fund, your contribution is recognized at the exact moment it is successfully submitted. To ensure your contribution is tax-deductible for the current calendar year, it must be successfully submitted by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on December 31.

How to find your tax form:

  1.  Log into your GoFundMe account and select "Your Giving Fund" from the top right menu.
  2. Under "Fund activity in 20_", click “Get your tax receipt”.
    • Tax receipts for 2025 will be available as early as September 2025. All contributions made to date will be reflected here.
  3. Select the year you want to download tax receipts for.
  4. Click “Download PDF”.

This summary includes all eligible contributions made to your Giving Fund during the selected year.
