How does GoFundMe Giving Fund verify nonprofits?

When donating through your GoFundMe Giving Fund, you can be confident donating to any certified nonprofit fundraiser as we have rigorous processes in place to confirm their charitable status. You can easily identify these fundraisers by looking for the tax deductible tag below the main image.

Contributions to your Giving Fund can only support qualified 501(c)(3) public nonprofits. Funds cannot be used for personal fundraisers, including your own.

How does GoFundMe Giving Funds (GFGF) confirm nonprofits?

GFGF can only approve grants to U.S.-based organizations that are officially recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public nonprofit. If an organization is classified as a private foundation, or their IRS status is revoked, under review, or inactive, it won’t be available for contributions.

GFGF uses a trusted third-party database to identify and verify nonprofits. Giving Funds works with trusted partners and resources to verify the legitimacy and good standing of nonprofits that are available to collect donations on our platform.

If nonprofits aren’t currently in good standing with the IRS, or have been flagged through our review process, they won’t be available for contribution. Once an organization reconfirms their good standing with the IRS, they can be made available for contributions again.
